Excerpt of a Memory

“It was weird...I remember reaching out to hold his hand and normally I hate holding hands. We got to the very top of the hill and I sat and I think he alternated between sitting and standing and we watched the sunrise. The colors...the blues and purples and the clouds were so fucking breathtaking. The sun peaked out and it was bright fucking red. Fiery, neon red. It was incredible. There was a tree that blocked the view a tad but it was gorgeous -- looked like a Mandelbrot in front of the sunrise. And not only that was beautiful, the nature side I mean, but if you looked all the way around even on the UConn side, it was all so beautiful. So blue. He and I just marvelled in the nature and how it was cold but not freezing, windy but not too much...such silence and serenity and the colors man...those fucking colors. I told him the ‘drash about how the sky is like a kippah, because it looked so round...it was gorgeous. I stood up and he was in front of me and he was like 'Look over th...

Q+U Wedding

Happy New Year! Wow. What a time. Last year, in 2020, I spent a lot of time reflecting on my past experiences and how they've shaped me. I thought back to kindergarten. That was the year we learned all the letters of the alphabet. Truly life changing. At the end of that lesson plan, we participated in a tradition, a ritual, that was an effort led by our teacher, Morah Kim (went to a Jewish day school, 'morah' means teacher). This tradition was called the Q+U Wedding. The boys and girls were paired up, made to dress in tiny suits and tiny white dresses, and would walk down the aisle of the school's chapel. There was some sort of ceremony and something about how Q and U always go together. My class had an odd number of members. Thus, I walked down the aisle as part of a throuple, with my two best friends at the time, let's call them Abraham and Sarah. It felt completely normal at the time and I was perfectly content to marry a boy and a girl at once, but looking back ...

Merry's Wedding

My cousin Merry's wedding was a beautiful affair. As you'd expect, I mean the woman's name is Merry! It was at a gorgeous castle-like venue with a maze in the back. I remember the smell of the grass and stones there. I remember it was warm and the summer breeze kissed each guest on the cheek as they arrived. I was an awkward 5th grader squidged into an awkward, ill fitting, brazenly colorful dress. The centerpieces for the tables were not flowers, but paint chips. From Lowe's or something. Merry wore not heels, but rather personalized Converse high tops. Her husband, Jim - as any good Minnesotan is named - wore not shiny black spy dress shoes, but rather personalized Jordans. I remember dancing and food. I remember bees and champagne.

Survivor

My magnum opus of quarantine was watching all 40 seasons of Survivor. I will record here my current ranking of the seasons. Fair warning, I have a strong positive bias toward seasons with an all-new cast of players and a medium bias to pre-season 20 seasons. The following is an excerpt from my spreadsheet of Survivor data. God save me. Pearl Islands Cook Islands Cagayan Heroes vs. Villains China Cambodia Micronesia Philippines The Amazon David vs. Goliath Tocantins Millennials vs. Gen X Blood vs. Water Kaoh Rong Panama: Exile Island San Juan del Sur Winners at War Caramoan Borneo Fiji Marquesas Australia Palau Africa Ghost Island Samoa All Stars Guatemala Vanuatu Edge of Extinction Game Changers Redemption Island South Pacific One World Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers Gabon Nicaragua Worlds Apart Island of the Idols Thailand

Pissed.

Do you ever have one of those weeks when your car won't start so you jumpstart it and take it to a mechanic and they tell you your battery is old and crusty and dead so they replace it and you drive home and then two days later your car won't start again so you jump it again and take it back to the mechanic and they tell you it was a defective new battery so they replace it free of charge and then you drive home and then another two days later you try to turn your car on but it won't start so you jump it again  and you take it back to the mechanic and they tell you the alternator needs to be replaced so you drop around $700 on a new alternator and you drive your car home and then two days later you try to turn your car on but it won't start? No? Well I do. And I'm pissed.

A Day To Remember

Today is the day. The day to remember. Why? Because I said so. Today marks the first day that I remembered I purchased this domain one night, many moons ago, in a fit of unrest and a haze of pot smoke. There are only so many accomplishments one human can have in a lifetime, and this is not one of mine. I failed to blog, to log -- what does the "b" in blog even stand for? Have you ever seen pie on a windowsill? These are the things one ponders when one is sitting on the toilet, procrastinating doing anything other than sitting on the toilet. Anyway, how's your day going? Is it much more better than yesterday?
